Have you ever been so scared you couldn't move? I remember one time I was leaving my best friend's house to head home when I saw out of the corner of my eye something moving in the neighbors yard. Turning I saw their pit bull had gotten out of the back yard and was taking an aggressive stance in my direction. Now, at the time, my mom had talked up the dangers of pit bulls and how you should avoid them at all costs (now I know better...it's the abused pits you have to be careful with. Some of the sweetest dogs I know are pit bull terriers). As I froze in my steps silently freaking out, the dog bared it's teeth, let out a deep growl, and charged at me. For a moment I was absolutely paralyzed by my fear. Just standing there watching this unfold was like watching a slow motion animal attack on YouTube (of course...it didn't even exist back then:-) Suddenly, whether it was the right or wrong thing to do, I yelled at the dog and commanded him to stop. He literally came to a skidding stop in my friend's plush St. Augustine lawn, tilted his head, and then returned to his property. Whew...my heartbeat is up just recalling the event: my narrow escape from death;-)
Things turned out alright after I was able to motivate myself to actually DO something. Isn't it that way with life? We have things charging at us, we're overwhelmed and don't know what to do first...or even at all, and then we stand paralyzed watching the world spin around us in slow motion. Well, I apologize, but I've gotten off my main point I was going to make (a little free flow here). This is my main thought: sometimes we are so anxious about getting it right (whether that's a response to life, a first step in the pursuit of a dream, or a new project) that we freeze up and do nothing. "I just want to do it right," we think to ourselves. Or, "if you're going to do it, do it right," we may hear inside of our heads. Well, sometimes you have to just start; move; jump; even fall forward. Just get going! Who cares if you get it right...go for it! This life is short. Times passing us much quicker than we realize. One day we'll all look up and be old and gray...if we're lucky, right? So take the bull by the horns today and hold on. Let's go for a ride!
